Furnace repair when the heat quits on you
Cold air, short cycling, strange noises, or nothing at all. We diagnose the real cause and fix it, usually the same day.
A furnace rarely dies all at once. It runs a little longer, cycles a little more, and blows a little cooler until one cold night it can't keep up. Catching it early is cheaper than waiting for the breakdown.
RCI has repaired furnaces and heat pumps across the OKC metro for 27 years. We're family-owned, we service all brands, and we fix what's broken instead of selling you what isn't. Same-day service in most cases.
Signs your furnace needs a repair
- It runs but never gets the house to the set temperature
- Cold or lukewarm air comes out of the vents
- It short cycles, turning on and off every few minutes
- The burners won't light, or the pilot or igniter keeps failing
- Rattling, banging, or squealing that wasn't there before
- Some rooms stay cold no matter what the thermostat says
- Your gas or electric bill climbs with no change in use
- It struggles most during cold snaps
What usually causes it
Most furnace failures come down to a handful of things. Restricted airflow from a dirty filter or blocked vents makes the unit overheat and shut itself down. Worn parts like blower motors, igniters, and flame sensors finally give out when winter demand spikes. A thermostat that misreads the room causes odd cycling. Electrical and control board faults stop the sequence of operation.
Sometimes the furnace is fine and the ductwork isn't. Leaky, undersized, or unbalanced ducts can't deliver the heat the furnace makes. Because we run our own sheet metal shop, we can fix that too.
What we repair
- Gas furnaces, all brands and ages
- Heat pumps in heating mode
- Older systems that need reliable performance again
- Newer systems with tricky electronic faults
- Commercial heating for offices, restaurants, schools, and retail
Repair or replace?
Not every furnace should be replaced. Most problems are a part and an hour of labor. But if repairs are getting frequent, comfort drops every winter, bills keep rising, and the unit fails every cold snap, it may be time. We give you a straight comparison of repair cost versus a new system and let you decide. No pressure either way.
What to expect
How a heater & furnace repair call goes
- 1Call and scheduleNo-heat calls go to the front of the line. Same-day service in most cases.
- 2Diagnose the real causeWe check operation, airflow, ignition, safeties, and controls to find the fault, not just the symptom.
- 3Explain your optionsWhat we found, why it matters, and what it costs to fix. Plain language.
- 4Fix itWhen a safe, practical repair makes sense, we make it and confirm the system is heating properly before we leave.
- 5Plan ahead if neededIf the unit is aging or repairs are piling up, we'll talk honestly about whether replacement is the better spend.
My furnace runs but blows cold air. What's wrong?+
Common causes are a failed igniter or flame sensor, a clogged filter causing the burners to shut off on high limit, or a thermostat fan setting stuck on. We can usually pin it down in one visit.
Why does my furnace turn on and off every few minutes?+
Short cycling is usually restricted airflow, an overheating heat exchanger tripping the limit switch, a dirty flame sensor, or an oversized furnace. It's hard on the equipment, so don't let it run that way for long.
Do you repair heat pumps too?+
Yes. We service heat pumps in both heating and cooling mode, all brands.
Can a repair wait until spring?+
Usually not. Small problems get worse under winter load, and a failed furnace in January is a much bigger problem than a service call in November.
