Heat pumps

Heat pump repair that fixes the actual problem

Weak airflow, wrong-temperature air, nonstop running, or a dead system. We find the cause, explain it plainly, and repair it, same day in most cases.

A heat pump that is only kind of working is easy to ignore. It still runs. The house is just never quite right, the bills creep up, and a couple of rooms never come around. Then a cold snap or a heat wave hits and it can't keep up at all.

RCI has repaired heat pumps in the OKC metro for 27 years. We're family-owned, we work on every brand, and we get to most repair calls the same day. You'll get a plain explanation of what failed and what it costs to fix before we touch anything.

Signs your heat pump needs repair

Small problems don't stay small through an Oklahoma summer or a January freeze. Call if you notice any of these:

  • It runs but the house never reaches the set temperature
  • Cool air in heating mode, or warm air in cooling mode
  • Weak airflow at the vents
  • It runs constantly, or short cycles on and off every few minutes
  • New buzzing, rattling, grinding, or squealing
  • Some rooms stay uncomfortable no matter the thermostat setting
  • Utility bills climb with no change in how you use the system
  • Ice on the outdoor unit that never clears

What usually causes it

Most heat pump problems come down to a handful of causes.

  • Airflow restrictions: dirty filters, blocked vents, or ducts that can't move enough air
  • Thermostat or control problems: bad readings, wrong programming, or failed controls
  • Worn parts: a heat pump runs year-round, so wear shows up faster than on a single-season system
  • Outdoor unit strain: when the outdoor unit struggles, the whole system loses capacity
  • Leaking, undersized, or unbalanced ductwork, the most overlooked cause of all

When the ducts are the problem

A heat pump can only deliver what the ductwork lets it. If the equipment tests fine but the rooms are still uneven, the duct system is usually why. We have our own sheet metal shop, so we can fix, resize, or rebuild ductwork instead of telling you to live with it. That matters most in older homes and houses that have been remodeled a few times.

Repair or replace?

Most heat pumps can be repaired and put back into reliable service. Sometimes replacement is the better spend, usually when the unit has become unpredictable or the repairs keep coming. We'll walk through how often it has needed work lately, how far performance has fallen, how well it keeps up in both seasons, and what a planned replacement costs against another year of patching. Then you decide.

Commercial heat pump repair

We repair heat pumps in offices, retail spaces, light commercial buildings, and multi-zone systems, with the same approach: find the real cause, fix it, and get you back to normal operating hours.

  4. 4Repair firstIf a safe, cost-effective repair is the right call, that's what we do.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else? (405) 693-6885. You'll get a real person.

My heat pump is blowing cool air in heating mode. Is it broken?+

Not always. Heat pump supply air is warmer than the room but cooler than a furnace's, so it can feel cool at the register. It's also normal for the system to blow cool air for a few minutes during a defrost cycle in cold weather. If the house isn't holding temperature, or the air is cool all the time, that's worth a call.

Why does my heat pump run all the time?+

In extreme heat or cold, long run times are normal for a heat pump. Constant running on a mild day usually points to restricted airflow, a struggling outdoor unit, a thermostat problem, or leaking ductwork. We check all of those.

Can you fix my brand?+

Yes. We service all brands of heat pump equipment, residential and commercial.

How fast can you get here?+

Same day in most cases. When demand spikes during a heat wave or cold snap it can take longer, and we'll tell you up front.

Need heat, cool, or a straight answer?
