Furnace tune-ups before winter tests it

An annual maintenance visit catches worn parts and safety problems while they're still cheap to fix.

Furnaces don't usually give much warning. Performance slips a little each year until a cold front pushes the system into long, heavy cycles and something lets go. A tune-up before that happens is the cheapest heating work you'll ever pay for.

RCI has been maintaining furnaces and heat pumps across the OKC metro for 27 years. We service all brands, residential and commercial, and we treat a tune-up with the same care as a major repair.

What a tune-up covers

This isn't a quick look and a sticker. We run the system and check how it performs under load.

  • Inspect the heat exchanger for cracks and corrosion
  • Test for carbon monoxide at the supply registers
  • Check gas connections and pressure for leaks
  • Clean and test the igniter, pilot, and flame sensor
  • Check blower, motor, and belts for wear
  • Measure airflow and inspect the filter
  • Verify thermostat accuracy and cycle behavior
  • Check electrical connections, safeties, and controls

What maintenance prevents

  • Mid-season breakdowns on the coldest night of the year
  • Overheating and shutdowns from restricted airflow
  • Short cycling that wears the unit out early
  • Slow efficiency loss that shows up on your bill
  • Uneven heat from duct or balance problems
  • Surprise end-of-life failures you could have planned for

How often

For most homes, once a year in the fall before you need the heat. Commercial buildings may need more frequent visits depending on size, equipment, operating hours, and whether there's a kitchen or other high-heat space. We'll set a schedule that fits how your building actually runs.

Filters and airflow

A dirty filter is the most common reason we find a furnace overheating. If you have pets, allergies, or a system that runs a lot, change filters more often than the box says. We'll show you the right interval for your house.

When rooms stay cold or airflow at the vents feels weak, the duct system is often the cause. RCI runs a full-service sheet metal shop, so when ducts are leaking, undersized, or out of balance we can fix them properly rather than just turning up the fan.

Planning ahead

A tune-up is also when we can tell you honestly how much life the unit has left. If repairs are getting frequent or a replacement should be budgeted, you'll hear it from us early, not in the middle of an emergency.

When is the best time to schedule furnace maintenance in Oklahoma?+

Early fall, before the first cold front. That gives us time to fix anything we find while it's still mild outside.

Do you check for carbon monoxide?+

Yes. Inspecting the heat exchanger and testing for CO are part of every furnace tune-up we do.

Do you maintain heat pumps?+

Yes. Heat pump maintenance covers refrigerant charge, defrost operation, auxiliary heat, and airflow in addition to the standard checks.

Is maintenance worth it on a newer furnace?+

Yes. New units still get dirty filters, loose connections, and airflow problems, and many manufacturer warranties expect regular service.
